Dear David, you mentioned that you intend “to take a short break and do some travelling, after which I will undertake the task of reading and reviewing Katchanovski’s book."

If you are planning to read and review Katchanovski’s book, why not also consider reading two of my essays that might be of interest to you and your colleagues? I would be very grateful for your response.

In 2023, McGill-Queen’s University Press published an English-language collection of documents Enemy Archives edited by Volodymyr Viatrovych and Lubomyr Luciuk. The collection presents 161(sic!) documents from the SBU archive: UPA and OUN’s documents confiscated by Soviet special services, as well as documents of the NKVD-KGB itself regarding the struggle against Ukrainian insurgents. In 2024, the American Library Association (ALA) included the collection in a list of Best Historical Materials for 2023.

However, after an article by Lev Golinkin, in which he accused the ALA of “whitewashing the history of Ukrainian Nazis” and antisemitism, the ALA Historical Materials Committee has retracted the book from the list: “The committee will be reviewing the award manual and procedures. We apologize for the harm caused by the work’s initial inclusion on the list.”

A better confirmation of the “cancel culture” and Jewish control over public opinion in the US cannot be devised. Unfortunately, I have not heard about the reaction of the world community of Holocaust researchers to this case. Why have you, David, been silent about this?
